Caring for moissanite and sterling silver
Neither material is fussy. A few minutes a month keeps a Celino piece looking the way it did the day it arrived.
The stone
Clean it monthly
Warm water and a drop of dish soap, worked in gently with a soft toothbrush, is all moissanite needs. Rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth.
It won't cloud or dull
At 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, moissanite resists scratching from everyday wear far better than softer stones. It won't fog, yellow, or lose brilliance over time.
Take it off for rough work
No cleavage plane means moissanite resists chipping better than a diamond — but any stone can still crack under a hard enough direct hit. Off for the gym, gardening, and manual work.
Skip the ultrasonic cleaner at home
Warm water and soap is genuinely enough. If a piece needs more than that, bring it to us rather than risk a home ultrasonic or steam cleaner on the setting.
The silver
Tarnish is normal — and reversible
Solid 925 sterling silver reacts with air over time, the same way any real silver does. A quick pass with a polishing cloth (we include one) brings the shine back in under a minute.
Store it dry, away from air
A closed box or a zip-top pouch slows tarnish considerably. Humidity and open air speed it up.
Off before water and chemicals
Swimming, showering, and household cleaning products all accelerate tarnish and can dull the polish. Take rings and bracelets off first.
Perfume and lotion go on first
Let skincare and fragrance fully dry before putting jewelry back on — both contain chemicals that speed up tarnishing.
